CHAP “HELP” Legislative Day

[HELP: Home Education Lobby Program] Wednesday, December 11, 2013 8:30am Harrisburg Capitol Building picture of Harrisburg state capitol

  • Get to know and thank some of our state legislators.
  • Let them meet a real homeschooling family.
  • Pro-actively advocate for home education and lobby for H.B. 1013 (visit www.pasen.gov).

House Bill 1013 is legislation designed to ease the burden on school superintendents and homeschool families. Under the proposed changes, a qualified evaluator will certify that an appropriate education is taking place, and that certification will be provided to the superintendent.  This eliminates re-evaluation by the school district while ensuring that an adequate review is taking place. This is a great opportunity for the whole family to participate. Young children are welcome to attend if you have confidence they are able to participate respectfully.  We will be meeting with members of the House Education Committee, urging them to move the bill to a vote. In order to honor these legislators for their public service, we will also bake them homemade pies and provide them with information about homeschooling and homeschooling law.
